Shreyas Iyer successfully undergoes back surgery in London, to miss WTC Final

Shreyas Iyer has undergone a successful back surgery in London, according to reports. The Indian batter went under the scissors on Tuesday at the capital of England and is currently on recovery.

The Indian batter had been suffering with recurring lower back pains for the past few months. His back injury kept him out of the ODI squad against New Zealand. He also missed the first Test of the Border Gavaskar series.

Then during the final Test, he felt the pain again and was subsequently out of the match. The player went to NCA for treatment but he was advised to undergo surgery.

And it is reported that Iyer has now gone under the procedure and is currently in rehabilitation. It means the Indian batter will most likely be out of action for at least a couple of months.

According to MyKhel sources, the player won't take any part in the IPL 2023. He is the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders but hasn't featured for them this season. Nitish Rana has been captaining KKR in Shreyas' absence.

The player is also set to miss the WTC Final in June. India will be up against Australia WTC 2023 Final which will be taking place at the Oval from June 7.

Iyer needs at least two to three months to return to full fitness, hence the summit clash of the Test tournament will be too soon for him. But the KKR captain will reach full fitness and will be available for selection for the ODI World Cup later this year.

Iyer is not the only player to miss WTC Final, as pacestar Jasprit Bumrah is also going to miss the solitary clash. The Indian pacer is also suffering from a back issue and hasn't played a match since September last year.

The BCCI has already demonstrated a strict guideline to the IPL franchises for precise management of the workload of key Indian players.
