There was no shortage of controversy in the ICC World Cup 2023 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
From Angelo Mathews given Timed Out to Shakib Al Hasan's 'Timed' send-off, there were no shortage of controversial incidents in the match.

And the sour feeling of the match continued even after the conclusion of the match. Sri Lanka players decided not to shake the hands with their opponents after the match.
The match was marred with heated incidents and not-so-friendly exchanges between the players pf both teams. From the get-go, tensions ran high in the match, with sparks flying not only from the verbal sparring between Sri Lanka's team captain Kusal Mendis and Bangladesh's fast bowler, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, but also from the intimidating stare-downs between Charith Asalanka and the Bangladeshi bowlers.
However, the situation escalated when Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews was declared timed out in the 25th over, thereby making cricketing history as the first player to be dismissed on such grounds in the history of international cricket.
As Bangladesh secured the winning runs, the Sri Lankan cricketers acknowledged the umpires and exited the field. They declined to exchange handshakes with Bangladesh dup Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Towhid Hridoy, who were still on the pitch.
Forgoing the customary post-game courtesy of a lineup to express civilities was noticeable. The Sri Lankan team members exited the field without the typical exchange. Nevertheless, handshakes were exchanged between the supporting staff of both teams.
When questioned about the decision of the Sri Lankan team to bypass handshakes with the Bangladesh team post-game, ex-captain Mathews articulated that due to the perceived lack of respect demonstrated by the Bangladesh players towards their opponents and towards cricket itself, it wouldn't be appropriate to expect amicable conduct in response.
