As the IPL 2025 season draws closer, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has made significant roster changes by releasing big players in preparation for the mega auction.

These releases include experienced players, seasoned overseas talent and rising stars, as SRH looks to build a success template to win the title for the upcoming season. Also read: Sunrisers Hyderabad Retention List for IPL 2025: All Retained Players for SRH on Deadline Day

Big names released by Sunrisers Hyderabad

Let's take a look at some of the notable names who will be re-entering the auction pool.

  1. Washington Sundar: Washington Sundar’s release has come as a surprise to many. He is an all-rounder with a solid record. Known for his economical off-spin bowling and useful contributions with the bat, Sundar was a reliable option in the middle overs for the Orange Army. The Tamil Nadu-born took 37 wickets in 60 games in the IPL since 2017 at a pretty decent economy rate of 7.54.
  2. Aiden Markram: The South African batter and former SRH captain was released despite leading the sister franchise, Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back titles in SA20 competition. He failed to bring the best out of himself with the bat as he scored 220 runs in 11 games including 1 fifty. Overall, he scored 995 runs in 44 games at an average of 30.1 including 5 fifties.
  3. Glenn Phillips: New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips joined SRH for INR 1.4 crore in 2022 but saw limited action due to the depth in SRH’s batting order. The New Zealand international has featured in just 8 IPL matches. Last season, he played 5 games, scoring 39 runs. Notably, his quickfire 25 off 7 balls against Rajasthan Royals played a pivotal role in securing SRH an unexpected victory in Jaipur.
  4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar: The 34-year-old Meerut-born has been a longstanding figure in SRH. His release marks the end of an era for the senior pacer with the franchise. With only 11 wickets in 16 matches last season, his performance did not meet expectations. It is a sign that SRH are pivoting towards a fresher pace attack. He took 181 wickets in 176 games at an economy of 7.56, including two fifers.
  5. T. Natarajan: T. Natarajan, who is known for his death-bowling prowess, was also released by SRH, perhaps due to fitness concerns and inconsistent performances. He shot to prominence in the IPL because of his ability to deliver precise yorkers, which made him a valuable asset for SRH in the past. The 33-year-old took 67 wickets in 61 appearances at an economy of 8.83.
  6. Wanindu Hasaranga: The Sri Lankan international Wanindu Hasaranga missed the 2024 season due to a heel injury. SRH franchise appears to be keen to experiment with different spin options and perhaps this could be the reason why they released him. Overall, he took 35 wickets in 26 games at an economy rate of 8.13, including a fifer.
