The Jos Buttler-led side started the Super 12 stage on a confident note with a win over Afghanistan by 5 wickets. Their batters were tested by Afghan bowlers in the opening game but England's bowlers sent a stern message to the opponents in the upcoming games as they lived up to the favourites tag. However, the English were stunned by neighbours Ireland in the second game.

Their match against Australia getting washed out means Jos Buttler & Co. find themselves in a tricky position.
VS IRE - Ireland won
The Men in Red were shocked by Ireland in the next game by 5 runs via DLS and brought their campaign off the track.
VS NZ - England won
Leading from the front, Jos Buttler slammed a brilliant fifty and helped England post a respectable total at the Gabba and bowlers restricted New Zealand to 159/6 and won the match by 20 runs.
They've kept their hopes alive and to qualify for the semis, the English will have to beat Sri Lanka in their next game and hope Australia's net run rate remains less than theirs.

However, they came back strongly in the second group match to beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets.

AUS vs IRE - Australia won by 42 runs
In their next game against Ireland, Aaron Finch & his band registered a comprehensive win and kept their hopes alive.
With two wins, one defeat and one game ending in a no-result, Australians currently possess 5 points and are placed second in the points table.
For the Aussies to qualify for the semi-finals, they will need to win all their last league game and hope New Zealand & England lose their remaining game.
Sri Lanka:

The Asia Cup winners started the Super 12 stage with an emphatic 9-wicket thrashing of Ireland. However, the Lankan Lions suffered a massive 7-wicket loss at the hands of Australia in their next encounter.
The biggest setback for Sri Lanka in the match against the Aussies was the way their key spinners were taken to the cleaners. Both Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga went for runs as Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis took them on remand.
The Sri Lankans suffered a huge defeat at the hands of New Zealand and their net run rate plunged further. They, however, have kept their hopes alive with a win over Afghanistan by getting two crucial points.
The Dasun Shanaka-led side currently finds itself at the third spot now. For them to qualify for the semis, the Sri Lankans will have to take their game to the next level for they face a tough opponent in England in the last league game.
At this stage, Sri Lanka should be aiming to secure the remaining two points and then see what fate holds for them for their qualification hopes rely on the result of New Zealand and Australia matches.
Afghanistan:

The Afghans suffered a 5-wicket defeat against England in the opening game of the Super 12 stage and their next two games against New Zealand and Ireland were abandoned due to rain, resulting in sharing of points. The Afghans have only two points as they lost to Sri Lanka in their fourth league match,
With this defeat, the Mohammad Nabi-led side has officially been knocked out of the Super 12 stage and became the second team from Group 1 to miss out on the semi-final qualification.
Ireland:

Ireland qualified for the Super 12 stage on the back of a superlative performance in round one. However, the Andrew Balbirnie-led side was off to a dismal start in round two with a nine-wicket loss against Sri Lanka.
They, however, pulled off a major upset when they defeated England by 5 runs (via DLS). Their next game against Afghanistan was abandoned and points were shared. Australia defeated them convincingly in the next match and ended their semi-final hopes.
They have 3 points in four games and are mathematically out of contention for the semi-finals.
