T20 World Cup 2024: Demoliton of 'Abomination' of a Stadium - Fans React Hilariously as New York Stadium All Set to be Bulldozed

By MyKhel Staff

The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, infamous for its pitch challenges, is all set to be dismantled, and cricket fans on Twitter have responded with a blend of humour and relief. Also read: Most Runs in T20 World Cup | Most Wickets | Most Sixes | Complete Points Table

This venue, which gained notoriety during the T20 World Cup 2024 for its drop-in pitch from Adelaide and slow sand-based outfield, became a nightmare for batters and a boon for bowlers, leading to a flurry of reactions online. The stadium is all set to be dismantled after it hosted the last match on Wednesday.

New York Stadiumolition Fans Reaction

The stadium's dismantling marks the end of a brief but significant chapter in American cricket. As bulldozers moved in, an ANI video captured the transformation from a bustling cricket venue to a memory.

The stadium, hastily constructed in 106 days, hosted several high-profile matches, including the eagerly anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash. Despite its flaws, it provided local fans a rare glimpse of international cricket.

One fan sarcastically commemorated the stadium's impact on the tournament: "The Nassau County Cricket Stadium, which caused significant mental trauma, is now gone. The streets will remember its pitch and the unforgettable impact it had on this World Cup, making it historic. RIP Nassau County Cricket Stadium."

Another tweet humorously highlighted the stadium's influence on Pakistan's cricket fortunes, taking a jab at Shaheen Afridi's performance: "Goodbye Nassau County cricket stadium of New York. Thank you for saving Pakistan Cricket by exposing fake stardom of self-proclaimed eagle & Wasim Akram."

Virat Kohli, who struggled on this surface with just 5 runs in three games, was also a target for fans. One tweet read, "USA government has decided to demolish the Nassau County Cricket Stadium because it isn't fit for playing cricket. A place where Virat Kohli failed thrice is a disgrace to the cricketing world."

Journalist Bharat Sundaresan captured the essence of the ground's notorious reputation: "As the final match of the #T20WorldCup in Nassau County nears its end, it's safe to say that we've found the perfect detox center in New York for batters the world over who get hooked on to flat pitches & off-the-hook six-hitting in T20s. Dismantle the venue, keep the pitches."

Some fans had a more visual reaction to the news, expressing their disdain colourfully: "me if I ever come across that called Nassau County cricket ground. (sab jala ke raakh kar dunga bc)."

With the demolition underway, the T20 World Cup now shifts focus to the Caribbean for the 'Super 8s' stage. Teams, including India, will compete in Florida and the West Indies, aiming for glory in the knockout rounds culminating in Barbados on June 29.

In the end, while the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium's tenure was short-lived, its impact on the tournament and fans alike will be remembered as cricket continues to expand beyond its traditional heartlands.
