T20 World Cup 2024: Sanju Samson was one of the contenders for a spot in India squad for World Cup last year, before the likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer pipped him in the final moments. He was also snubbed from the India squad for Asia Cup 2023.
Almost a year later, Sanju Samson is up against KL Rahul for a spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. As per reports, captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are meeting in Delhi on Saturday, April 27, and the squad should be out by Monday.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson, and his Lucknow Super Giants counterpart KL Rahul are hustling hard for a place as the second-choice wicketkeeper-batter in India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant has made a stellar comeback from injury, and is almost certain of a place.
Rishabh Pant, who is now third among the top run-getters in the competition with 342 at a strike rate of 161, has almost sealed his place as the team's first choice keeper-batter and also as a designated finisher.

The fight is pretty intense for the second keeper's slot and despite KL Rahul (302 at 141 SR) not batting in the middle-order, his range of strokes might just help him pip Samson (314 at SR 152).
While KL Rahul is batting as an opener, Samson has anchored Rajasthan Royals' inning while batting at three. Notably, there is already a traffic jam in the top order.
Not only Samson's batting but his captaincy has also been top notch. After losing just one out of their eight games so far, Rajasthan are currently at the top of the 10-team IPL 2024 points table.
While the reputation of KL Rahul would tempt selectors to pick him in the final squad, Samson's red-hot form as captain and batter would surely make their decision a difficult one.
