Team India likely to play T20 series against West Indies in USA

New Delhi, July 27: If things go as planned, then Team India is likely to play its first official cricket series on US soil. The BCCI is reportedly planning to host a short T20 series against West Indies in Florida in late August.

The Indian Cricket Board seems to have made its mood for expanding its horizon in the Western nation to encash the presence of Asian diaspora, thus planning a series in the US.

As per The Indian Express report, Indian board was keen on playing a few T20s against the world champions at the Central Broward Regional Park at Lauderhill in Florida, which is presently hosting six Caribbean Premier League (CPL) matches.

However it is still not clear whether the series will end up being a bilateral series, with a T20 tri-series involving Bangladesh being the other alternative.

"West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) officials will be meeting in Florida to sort it out. We are just waiting for the green signal. It's amber already, you can say. The matches will likely be played over the last weekend of August. It will be peak summer in Florida, and it will be a spectacle. However, there is slight chance of Bangladesh being invited as the third team for a tri-series," a source was quoted by the news daily as saying.

The Indian Cricket Team, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, is presently touring the Caribbean for a four-Test series in West Indies which concludes on August 22.

Also, T20 is the only game which can be a potent tool for marketing the game in the US due to its duration.

Earlier last year, "Cricket All Stars Series" was played in USA in November across 3 cities. The T20 matches, featuring former cricketing stars, were played between "Sachin's Blasters" and "Warne's Warriors".
