India's Under-19 Cricket World Cup group match against Ireland witnessed a moment of brilliance on Thursday (January 25) as Aravelly Avanish showcased his wicketkeeping prowess reminiscent of the legendary MS Dhoni.
18-year-old Avanish, who was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai, left spectators in awe with his impeccable glovework behind the stumps against Ireland.

In the 12th over of the match, Avanish executed a stumping that would have made even MS Dhoni proud. Reacting swiftly to a flighted delivery from left-arm spinner Saumy Pandey, Avanish saw Irish batter Macdara Cosgrave lunging forward.
Cosgrave's misjudgment of the delivery left him stranded, with his back leg momentarily off the ground. Seizing the opportunity, Avanish whipped off the bails in a flash, effecting the dismissal of Cosgrave for just 3 runs off 5 balls.
Before that lightning-quick stumping, Aravelly took a stunning one-handed catch diving towards his right to dismiss Irish captain Philippus le Roux for a three-ball duck. His performance not only showcased his individual skill but also underscored his potential as a bright future prospect in Indian cricket.
His inclusion in the CSK squad at the IPL Auction was a moment of immense pride for his family and his village, Pothugal, located in the Mustabad mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district, Telangana. The entire village celebrated as CSK secured Avanish for INR 20 lakh, marking a significant milestone in his budding career.
Hailing from a humble background, Avanish's journey to cricketing stardom is a testament to his dedication and talent. His father, Lakshman Rao, works as a software engineer, while his mother, Sushma, hails from Kolanur village in the same district. Despite his modest beginnings, Avanish's passion for cricket and his natural aptitude for the sport have propelled him onto the national stage.
At just 18 years old, Avanish has already made waves in the cricketing world. Apart from his IPL stint with CSK, he has earned a place in India's Under-19 squads for the tri-series in South Africa and the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup 2024.
Known for his leadership skills, Avanish has previously captained Hyderabad's Under-14 and Under-19 teams, leaving a mark with standout performances in local tournaments. One of Avanish's notable achievements came with his remarkable 183-run knock against Chennai in junior-level cricket, a feat that caught the attention of selectors and cricket enthusiasts alike.
