'Virat Kohli is selfish!' fans criticise star batter for slow-paced century during India vs South Africa in World Cup 2023

Virat Kohli reached a landmark century in his career during the India vs South Africa match at the ICC World Cup 2023 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (November 5). However, taking 119 deliveries to reach the century didn't sit well with may Indian fans, who took to X, formerly Twitter, to criticise the star batter.

Virat Kohli took his time to settle down on the crease after Rohit Sharma (40 runs off 24 balls) provided a quick start to India. The former India captain hit just 10 boundaries during the course of his innings as he struggled to dominate South African spinners. Expectedly a section of fans wasn't impressed as Kohli never accelerated his innings.

His 49th century came after weeks of frustration at the ICC World Cup 2023 as Virat Kohli got out on 88 (vs Sri Lanka), 95 (vs New Zealand) and 85 (vs Australia). His 95 against earned special praises as he re-established his name as the chase master while India lost wickets during a tricky chase in Dharamshala. By the time, Virat Kohli got out, the match was well within India's grasp.

The century at Eden Gardens was his second this ICC World Cup 2023 as Virat Kohli scored a 103 not out against Bangladesh while chasing a paltry total. Virat Kohli also memorably bowled two deliveries in the game after Hardik Pandya got injured while bowling and couldn't finish his over.

Hardik Pandya since then has been ruled out of the ICC World Cup 2023 after struggling to recover from his injury and has been replaced by pacer Prasidh Krishna as the selectors went for an extra pacer with the all-rounder out.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, has also crossed 500 runs in the Most runs list in the tournament and just seven runs behind leader Quinton de Kock, who could only score 5 runs on the day before Mohammed Siraj ended his innings early in the chase.
