Virat Kohli could break Clive Lloyd's record of 'unbeaten' 27 Tests: Sunil Gavaskar

New Delhi, Feb 14: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar lauded current skipper Virat Kohli's leadership skills after India defeated Bangladesh by 208 runs in the one-off Test at Hyderabad on Monday (Feb 13).

With the win against Bangladesh, the charismatic India captain became 3rd most successful Indian skipper after registering his 15th Test victory.

Praising Kohli's leadership, Gavaskar excuded confidence that Kohli will make it 19 wins at the end of four-Test series against Australia.

In an interview to NDTV, the legendary India opener said that Kohli could even break legendary West Indies captain Clive Llyod's record of leading his side to 27 unbeaten Tests.

"I think Virat Kohli's unbeaten run as captain is going to extend. He has a good chance of equalling Clive Lloyd's record," Gavaskar told .

Lloyd-led the West Indies team to record from 1982 to 1984. The legendary skipper was in charge of 26 of the 27 games, with Viv Richards standing in as captain for one game.

Kohli-led India to its sixth successive series win after beating Bangladesh in one-off Test at Hyderabad. A dominant India defeated visitors by 208 runs.

Speaking about the Hyderabad Test, Gavaskar said that the match could have finished earlier had India bowled first.

"There was a bit of grass on the track on the first day. "If India had bowled first, the match could have finished earlier. The way Umesh was bowling in his opening spell was absolutely terrifying," he stated.

"Bangladesh have done themselves no harm with the way they played. They played some ordinary shots in the second innings, including one from their captain," Gavaskar added.

Speaking about the upcoming Test series between India and Australia, Gavaskar, however, cautioned that the upcoming series isn't going to be easy.

"Australia series won't be a cakewalk for India. The Aussies won't lie down without a fight," Gavaskar added further.

India will lock horns Australia in the first Test at Pune, starting February 23.
