Yesterday World Cup 2023 Match Result: Pakistan vs Afghanistan on October 23

In Yesterday's ICC World Cup 2023 Match, Pakistan locked horns against Afghanistan at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Before the match, Pakistan had won seven matches out of seven against the Afghans and were expected to get two important points. But the outcome of the match in Chennai was completely different as Afghanistan registered a historic victory over their neighbours by 8 wickets.

Pakistan chose to Bat first and it was a decent batting performance from them. Babar Azam (74), Abdullah Shafique (58) scored decent half centuries and then Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed had two breezy cameos to take them to 282 for 7 at the end of 50 overs. Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets on his World Cup debut.

Afghanistan made lightwork of the run chase, much to the surprise. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran added 130 runs in the opening wicket. The former scored 65 off just 63 while Zadran made a well-compiled 87. Pakistan's fielding was all over the place.

Then Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi took the Afghans home safe to register a historic victory over Pakistan. The pair added an unbeaten 96 runs for the 3rd wicket as the former remained unbowed on 77 to steer his team to a memorable win.

This is not just their first ODI win over Pakistan, but their second World Cup victory in this edition, the first time (multiple wins in a World Cup edition) they have managed that.
