Will take 'one hell of an effort' to equal Sachin Tendulkar's 49 ODI hundreds: Virat Kohli

New Delhi, Sep 4: Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli entered yet another elite club as he slammed his career's 30th ODI century during the game against Sri Lanka.

The 28-year-old Indian batting mainstay has equalled legendary Australia batsman Ricky Ponting's 30 ODI hundreds to become joint second to hit most centuries.

He's now behind Sachin Tendulkar who has slammed 49 ODI tons in his illustrious career spanning 24 years.

Kohli felt it was an honour to reach Ponting's milestone but it will take "one hell of an effort" to reach anywhere near Tendulkar's world record.

When asked if he's setting sights at Sachin's record, Kohli said at the post-match press conference, "The great man (Sachin Tendulkar) is quite a bit away. That's going to take a hell of an effort. Again, I am not thinking about that. It's only about the team where even if I score a 90 not out and the team goes across the line, it's good enough for me."

"It's an honour for me to equal someone like Ricky Ponting. That's not something that you aim for but obviously he's a great player and as batsmen we all respect what these legends have done," he added.

Kohli, who became the youngest to complete 30 ODI tons, said he doesn't play for records and the team comes first to him.

"I look to perform as well as I can for the team. These things keep happening as you go along in your career. You don't target these things, but those stat windows are hard to neglect because they pop up everywhere after you have achieved something," said Kohli.
