
Mumbai, Feb 14: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (February 14) announced the full schedule for the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023.
The WPL 2023 Auction was successfully concluded in Mumbai on Monday (February 13) where 449 players went under the hammer.
The five franchises i.e. Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore & UP Warriorz splurged a total of Rs 59.50 crore to acquire some of the best talents in the international and domestic circuit.
Star India batter Smriti Mandhana was the top buy of the first-ever WPL auction as she was sold for a whopping Rs 3.40 Crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was sold to Mumbai Indians for a bid of Rs 1.80 Crore while the rest of the stars from India and around the globe too made the cut in one of the five franchises.
Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and England all-rounder Natalie Sciver were the top buys amongst overseas players as they were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for Rs 3.20 Crore respectively.
From the India U19 stars, ICC U19 T20 World Cup winning captain, Shafali Verma was the top buy, sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 Crore.
As per the BCCI release, a total of 20 league matches and 2 Playoff games will be staged in the WPL inaugural edition, which will be played for a duration of 23 days.
The first match of the highly-anticipated tournament will kick off on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium with a blockbuster clash between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians.

On Sunday, March 5, the tournament will witness its first double-header day where Royal Challengers Bangalore will square off against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI.
UP Warriorz will play their first game of the league against Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in the evening.
There will be 4 double headers with the first match starting at 3:30 PM IST. All evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST.
The entire tournament will be played across two venues i.e. DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. A total of 11 matches each will be held at the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
The Final game of the league stage will be played between UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals on 21st March at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI.
The Eliminator will be played at the DY Patil Stadium on 24th March.
The Final of the Women's Premier League 2023 will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on March 26.
Sport18 and Sports18 Khel will broadcast the WPL matches in India while the live streaming will be available on JioCinema.
