WC 2015: Will it be 'Windia' and 'Losstralia'? Sunil Gavaskar is not sure

Sydney, March 25: Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar on Wednesday said he believed Australia were favourites to win the high-voltage World Cup semifinal against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground here on Thursday. But he also felt that if the defending champions led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni bat first and put up a big total, the results could be different.

"Australia are favourites because they have psychological advantage of having beaten India in all the matches the two sides have played in all formats in recent times. I understand that World Cup is a different ball game altogether but I still feel that Australia have got the advantage,"Gavaskar said, according to PTI.

Gavaskar, who was a member of India's World Cup-winning team of 1983, said Australia are the favourites even if his heart said India. He said the only way India can win the match is by posing a big total, in the range of 290-300.

The former batsman, however, felt that India need not worry about the presence of spin legend Shane Warne at the Australian net session. He said India do not have a leg-spinner and bowlers like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are completely different, which make the Warne factor insignificant. He said India instead will have to play Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell well to make an impact.

New Zealand have already made the final of the World Cup after beating South Africa in the first semi-final.

The final of the 11th edition of the cricket World Cup will be held on March 29.
