WPL 2023: Top Five Indian players in the inaugural Women's Premier League

The first step of the Women's Premier League has yielded some monumental results. Three weeks of fantastic cricketing action has provided some great moments for cricket lovers across the world.

Mumbai Indians women's team clinched the first title after beating Delhi Capitals in the final. A franchise setup which promises to inspire millions in the country, saw some terrific performances from the Indian players across the course of the tournament.

Here are the Top Five Indian performers from the WPL 2023. It is only considered among the capped Indian players-

Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians)

Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanprert Kaur broke her jinx of losing finals by getting at the right side of one. She was an inspiring figure throughout and led her team sublimely as the Paltans created history. Apart from that, Harmanpreet was fantastic with the bat for them, scoring 281 runs in the tournament.

She was the highest run getter among Indians in the WPL and racked up 3 fifties. The MI captain hit 44 fours and 3 sixes in the tournament. Her best in the tournament was 65 in the opening match of the tournament against Gujarat Giants. She also played an important part in the final, scoring 37 runs which helped MI to get closer to the target.

Shafali Verma (Delhi Capitals)

Shafali Verma was the mainstay of Delhi batting along with her captain Meg Lanning, who ended up winning the WPL 2023 Orange Cap. Shafali amassed 252 runs in the tournament, at an average of 31.5 and a strike rate of 185.3, the best in the tournament.

The dashing batter hit 32 fours and 13 sixes as she demonstrated her trademark destructive batting in the tournament. She perhaps would still be disappointed as she failed to make an impact in the final, but overall Shafali was one of the best Indian players.

Shikha Pandey (Delhi Capitals)

Delhi Capitals pacer Shikha Pandey was one of the standout performers in the WPL. The veteran was decent with the ball and picked up 10 wickets at an impressive economy of 6.59. She also showed her hitting ability with the bat in the final, scoring an unbeaten 27 off just 17 balls. Pandey was the highest wicket taker among the capped Indian players.

Yastika Bhatia (Mumbai Indians)

Yastika Bhatia stood tall and delivered in the WPL for Mumbai Indians. The 22-year-old opened the bat for the Champions and amassed 214 runs in the tournament, third highest by an Indian player. At such a tender age, Bhatia showed excellent temperament with the bat and was fantastic behind the stumps as well.

She completed 6 catches and 7 stumpings in the tournament, the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper.

Dayalan Hemalatha (Gujarat Giants)

Dayalan Hemalatha sent a strong message with her batting in this WPL. She was one of the bright sparks for Gujarat Giants in a gloomy season. Hemalatha scored 151 runs at a superb strike rate of 157. The Chennai-born player showed terrific hitting ability and will be in the reckoning for the Indian selection in the coming months.

She has shown her offbreak bowling for India but was not given a single over in the tournament.
