Senior India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal getting snubbed for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 has left several stunned. In the 17-member squad for the continental showpiece, Team India picked Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel as three tweakers.
The 33-year-old wrist-spinner from Haryana - who did well in the three-match ODI series against West Indies - failed to impress the selectors and captain Rohit Sharma to win a ticket to Sri Lanka.

The snub in Asia Cup indirectly points towards Chahal's exclusion from the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023, starting October 5. Team India is expected to look more or less the same when the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar will announce the provisional 15-member squad for the World Cup on September 5.
After getting ignored for the third straight ICC tournament (T20 WC 2021 and 2022, and 2023 ODI WC), the 33-year-old cricketer took to his social media handles to express his disappointment and hinted he will continue to work hard. In his post via emoticons, Chahal mentioned sun comes out sunny and bright after getting covered by clouds.
Chahal's exclusion from the Asia Cup 2023 hasn't gone down well with his wife Dhanashree Verma Chahal either. Dhanashree - who is a social media star and dancer - took to her Instagram handle to post a cryptic message.
Fans believe with her post, Dhanashree has taken a dig at the Indian team management and selectors for their decision to drop Chahal from the ODI side. She asked whether being super submissive and introverted hurts one's professional growth or does one need to be an extrovert to grow in life.
Dhanashree wrote on her Instagram story, "Now I have started to question this on a serious note. If being super submissive & introvert can be harmful for your work growth? Or do we all have to be extrovert & street-smart savvy to grow in life?... "In the end, it is between you and your God. And fortunately, the world is with you. Thankful. God is great."
Reading the cricketer's wife's Instagram story, several fans started connecting it with the leg-spinner's ouster from the national side. While announcing India's squad for the Asia Cup skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar claimed they've gone with Chahal's wrist-spin twin Kuldeep Yadav as the frontline spinner.
Rohit further claimed that the reason why all-rounder Axar Patel has been included in the squad is because the Gujarat cricketer provides batting depth to the side. "But we also want someone who can bat at number eight and nine.
"Axar has had a great run with the bat in all formats and the IPL. He got some chances in West Indies too, but he bats too low. Him being there gives us batting depth, a left-hand option and someone who we can use up the order to play spin. We also thought of Ashwin (Ravichandran Ashwin) and Washi (Washington Sundar) as well," Rohit said after announcing the squad for Asia Cup.
"The only way we could include them was by having a seamer miss out. We cannot do this because seamers are going to be playing a massive role in the next two months. But the door is open for all. If we need Chahal in World Cup, we will try to squeeze him in. The same goes for Ashwin and Washington," the Mumbaikar added further.
