Crystal Dunn Biography

Dunn's international debut came in 2013 during a friendly match against Scotland in Nashville, TN. She has since been a key player for the United States national team. Her versatility allows her to play both as a defender and a forward.

Coaches and Playing Style

At the club level, Dunn is coached by Paul Riley from Great Britain. For the national team, her coach is Vlatko Andonovski from North Macedonia. Her playing style is diverse, excelling both in defence and attack.

Awards and Honours

Dunn's accolades are numerous. In 2019, she was named in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Second XI Team of the Year. In 2018, she made it to the NWSL Best XI Team of the Year and was named Player of the Month for June.

Her achievements date back to her college days. In 2010, she was named to several All-America and All-Region teams. She also received the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award twice and the Offensive Player of the Year award once.

Milestones

At age 23, Dunn became the youngest player to receive the NWSL Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player awards in 2015. She was also the first freshman to win the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award in 2010.

Challenges and Motivation

Dunn has faced racial stereotypes throughout her career. She has worked hard to expand her style of play to combat these stereotypes. "I want to be skilled, I want to be technical," she said in an interview with The Guardian in June 2019.

Despite being a forward for her club team, Dunn plays as a wide defender for the US national team. This switch was suggested by then US coach Jill Ellis early in her international career. Dunn embraced this change and grew into the role.

World Cup Motivation

Dunn used her omission from the 2015 World Cup squad as motivation for that year's NWSL season. She went on to win both the Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player awards that season. "Not making that World Cup roster was soul crushing," she said on U.S. Soccer's YouTube Channel in November 2018.

Personal Life

Dunn is married to Pierre Soubrier. She speaks English fluently and continues to inspire many with her sporting philosophy: "No weapon formed against me shall prosper."

As of August 2024, Dunn remains a pivotal figure in women's football, both at the club and international levels.
