Derkach's journey into athletics began in her childhood. Both her parents were athletes, which influenced her decision to follow in their footsteps. "I can pretty much say that I was born on the track and, as a child, I followed where my mother went," she recalls. At nine years old, she started competing, focusing on jumping and sprinting.

Professional Career

She represents CS Aeronautica Militare in Italy and is coached by her parents, Serhiy and Oksana Derkach. Her father represented Ukraine in decathlon at the international level, while her mother was a national champion in heptathlon for Ukraine.

International Debut

Derkach made her international debut in 2013 at the European Team Championships held in Gateshead, England. Competing for Italy, she showcased her talent on a global stage.

Challenges and Comebacks

In 2015, Derkach faced a significant setback when she fractured vertebrae in her back. However, she made a strong comeback by returning to competitive action in March 2016.

Outside of athletics, Derkach enjoys photography, listening to music, shopping, motorcycles, and going to the seaside. These hobbies provide a balance to her rigorous training schedule.
