David Boudia Biography

Boudia resides in West Lafayette, IN, USA, with his wife Sonnie and their four children: Dakoda (born 2014), Knox (born 2019), Mila (born 2017), and Parker (born 2022). He graduated with a degree in Communications from Purdue University in West Lafayette.

Career Highlights and Challenges

Boudia's career has been marked by significant achievements and challenges. He was named USA Diving Athlete of the Year for seven consecutive years from 2010 to 2016 and also won the award in 2008. While competing for Purdue University, he was named the 2011 NCAA Diver of the Year and was inducted into the Purdue University Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.

However, his journey has not been without setbacks. In February 2018, he sustained a concussion after a platform dive. Unaware of the injury for two months, he continued to dive until he began experiencing dizziness, blackouts, numbness, and fatigue. This injury caused him to miss the 2018 US Championships and the World Cup.

Coaching Career

In 2021, Boudia transitioned into coaching as a full-time assistant diving coach at Purdue University. This role allows him to share his extensive experience and knowledge with upcoming divers.

Switching Disciplines

After his concussion in 2018, Boudia switched his focus from platform diving to springboard diving. He felt mentally exhausted from platform diving and needed a change in his training routine.

Career Break and Return

Following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Boudia took a year-long break from diving to explore real estate. He announced his return to the sport in September 2017. Despite not being at what is considered the prime age for diving, he believes his wisdom and experience give him an edge over younger athletes.

Boudia lives by the motto: "Value the journey and not just the medal you might win." His hobbies include reading, playing video games, spending time with friends, and watching sports.

Boudia's accolades include being named USA Diving Athlete of the Year multiple times and being inducted into Purdue University's Hall of Fame. His sister Shauni also has a sporting background, having played football for the University of Southern Indiana.
