Trotter is coached by Caryl Smith Gilbert in the USA. In 2013, she became a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans athletics team. This role allowed her to share her expertise and experience with upcoming athletes.

In 2008, Trotter injured her left knee and chipped her femur after bumping her knee against a car door. This incident disrupted her training for five weeks. Despite this setback, she recovered in time to compete at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The following year, she underwent knee surgery, which kept her out of action for the entire 2009 season. Her resilience and determination have been evident throughout her career as she overcame these challenges.

Trotter enjoys singing, dancing, and watching films. She admires Jearl Miles Clark, a fellow athlete from the United States. Known for her unique style, Trotter wears glitter and face paint while competing, which she refers to as war paint.
