Born and raised in Penza, Russia, the athlete began his journey in gymnastics at the age of seven. Initially involved in ice hockey and BMX, he switched to gymnastics due to a lack of results in the former sports. He found his passion and decided to stay with gymnastics.

After the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, he suffered fractures to both shin bones during a training session. He resumed training with the Russian national team in March 2020. In 2015, he had a shoulder injury that sidelined him for six weeks.
He also suffered a foot injury during the vault event at the 2015 European Championships in Montpellier, France. He resumed training after a medical check-up. Additionally, he had a hand injury during a rings exercise in 2014, requiring minor surgery.
His achievements have been recognised multiple times. For his performance at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he received the Order of Honour from the president of Russia. He was awarded the Order of Friendship for his achievements at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
For his performance at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he received the Order for Merits to the Fatherland [first grade]. He also holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Russia.
In 2020, he opened a shop for gymnastics sports equipment in Penza. This venture reflects his dedication to promoting gymnastics and supporting athletes with quality equipment.
Looking ahead, he plans to continue competing at high levels and aims to participate in upcoming international competitions. His focus remains on maintaining peak physical condition and achieving further success in gymnastics.
Residing in Penza with his son Yaroslav, born in 2017, he balances his professional commitments with family life. Fluent in Russian, he completed his higher education in coaching from Penza State Pedagogical University.
