Dorian pursued higher education in Sports and Recreation Studies at CIOS Heerenveen in the Netherlands. His passion for sports was evident from a young age, and he excelled in various disciplines. He speaks both Dutch and English fluently.

Coaching and Mentorship

Since 2008, Dorian has been coached by Aaron McIntosh from New Zealand. Under McIntosh's guidance, he has honed his skills and achieved numerous accolades. His sporting philosophy is to remain open to the world and the people he encounters.

Achievements and Honours

Dorian's list of awards is impressive. He was named Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Orange-Nassau after winning a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He also served as the flag bearer for the Netherlands during the opening ceremony of these games.

In 2012, he received the Conny van Rietschoten Award for best Dutch sailor. Additionally, he was named Male Athlete of the Year in Texel in 2009. Dorian also represented the Netherlands in kite surfing at the 2012 World Championships in Sardinia, Italy.

Personal Life

Dorian lives with his wife Sasha and their two daughters, Lise An (born 2015) and Rhea (born 2019). Despite a wrist injury in February 2015 that kept him off the water for two months, he continued to pursue his passion for sports.

Other Activities

In June 2019, Dorian took on the role of festival director for the first 'Waves Festival' on Texel island. This four-day event combined music and water sports. In March 2019, he was appointed as an Ocean Ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund.

Dorian also founded the Dorian Foundation, which supports talented athletes in Texel. His commitment to nurturing young talent reflects his dedication to giving back to his community.

Looking ahead, Dorian aims to continue competing at high levels. His plans include participating in future Olympic Games and other international competitions. His journey serves as an inspiration to many aspiring athletes worldwide.
