Earvin Ngapeth Biography

Ngapeth has played for Zenit Kazan in Russia and has been coached by Laurent Tillie at the national level. Known for his role as a wing spiker, he has earned several accolades. He was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2015 and 2017 World League. Additionally, he received the Best Outside Spiker award at the 2015 European Championship in Bulgaria and Italy.

His achievements extend to the Italian SuperLega, where he was named MVP for the 2015/16 season. Earlier in his career, he was recognised as MVP at the 2008 European Youth Championships and the 2009 European Junior Championships.

Personal Life

Ngapeth resides in Kazan, Russia, with his two sons, Mathys and Dany. He speaks English, French, and Italian fluently. His father represented France in volleyball at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and has coached in various countries. His brother Swan also plays volleyball and was part of the French team that won gold at the 2009 Youth European Championships.

Earvin's name was inspired by US basketball player Earvin 'Magic' Johnson, who was his father's idol. He is also known by nicknames such as Pepethe and Magic.

Injuries and Challenges

Ngapeth has faced several injuries throughout his career. In March 2020, he was hospitalised for two weeks in Kazan due to COVID-19 symptoms. His training was disrupted ahead of the 2019 European Championship due to a muscle injury but he still participated in the tournament. He missed several matches in the 2014 World League because of a right shoulder injury and had a back injury in late 2013.

Other Interests

Apart from volleyball, Ngapeth is passionate about music. He is a rap music composer and has released two albums under the pseudonym 'Klima'. In 2019, he released an album titled 'Maniere' under his own name. He also composed the national team's anthem for the 2015 World League campaign.

Ngapeth's African roots are significant to him. His father Eric was born in Douala, Cameroon. Earvin visited Cameroon when he was young and hopes to have a house there in the future despite his busy schedule.
