Verås Larsen's international debut came in 1996 at the World Championships Marathon in Sweden, competing for Norway. His early career was shaped by influential figures such as his first coach Olaf Söyland, a world champion in 1975 and 1979. He also credits Ørjan Madson and Hungary's Zoltán Bakó for their guidance.
