Clouvel resides in Paris, France, with her partner Valentin Belaud, who is also a modern pentathlete and world champion. She speaks both English and French fluently. Clouvel pursued higher education in Business, English, and Sport Studies at the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education (INSEP) in Paris.
Before focusing on modern pentathlon, Clouvel was part of the national development swimming squad at age 15. Her athletic prowess runs in the family; her mother Annick was a national distance running champion in the 1990s, and her father Pascal set a national record in the 5000m.
In 2011, Clouvel suffered a broken foot in a motorbike accident. Despite this setback, she continued to excel in her sport. Her resilience is evident in her recovery and subsequent achievements.
Clouvel places significant emphasis on psychological training. She has worked with psychologists Jean Paul Pes and Meriem Salmi to enhance her mental strength. "At the Olympic Games, the mental factor counts for 80% of the competition," she noted. This training helps her manage emotions during high-pressure moments.
Clouvel and Belaud incorporate dance training into their regimen with coach Armelle Van Eecloo. This unique approach helps them save energy on movements and gestures. Belaud mentioned that this training allows them to eliminate unnecessary elements from their performance.
Clouvel's sporting philosophy is encapsulated in her motto: "The gold is in the process." This reflects her belief in the importance of dedication and hard work over merely focusing on outcomes.
As Clouvel continues to train and compete, her dedication to modern pentathlon remains unwavering. Her comprehensive approach to physical and mental preparation sets a strong example for aspiring athletes worldwide.
