Emese Szász-Kovács Biography

Szasz-Kovacs faced several injuries early in her career. In 2011, she underwent elbow surgery and later tore a ligament in her ankle. She had another elbow surgery in January 2015 but returned to competition two months later. Minor injuries also affected her performance in early 2019.

Personal Life

In August 2019, Szasz-Kovacs became a mother to twins, Maja Magdolna and Levente Gyozo. The news of her pregnancy came shortly after the death of her longtime coach, Gyozo Kulcsar, in 2018. She took time off from competition to mourn his passing and to focus on her family.

Coaching and Influence

Gyozo Kulcsar had a profound impact on Szasz-Kovacs's career. He guided her to a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Their relationship was described as father-daughter-like, and his death was a significant loss for her.

Return to Competition

After the birth of her twins, Szasz-Kovacs resumed training with the aim of competing at the Tokyo Olympics, initially scheduled for 2020 but postponed to 2021. She expressed determination to continue competing for another full season once she had committed to returning.
