Injuries and Setbacks

Erin's journey has not been without its difficulties. In March 2015, she suffered an elbow injury during training in Sydney, NSW, Australia, which required hospitalisation for a couple of days. Late 2014 saw her dealing with chlorine poisoning after inhaling the chemical while training in a pool.

A prolonged bout of pneumonia affected her throughout 2013 and early 2014. Additionally, injuries and illnesses following the 2012 Olympic Games in London kept her from competing until June 2013. In 2009, Erin underwent surgery to repair a heart defect.
