Fausto Desalu, an accomplished athlete, began his journey in athletics during high school. His talent was first noticed by a coach who was a friend of one of his teachers. Inspired by Italian athlete Andrew Howe, Desalu transitioned from football to athletics. He recalls playing football in primary school but often found himself on the bench.

| Season | Event | Rank |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | Men's 4 x 100m Relay | G Gold |
| 2021 | Men's 200m | 16 |
| 2016 | Men's 200m | 49 |
Currently, Desalu is part of the GA Fiamme Gialle club in Italy. His personal coach is Sebastian Bacchieri. Desalu has expressed satisfaction with Bacchieri, describing him as a true friend who provides valuable guidance. "Whatever he tells me to do, I do it," Desalu stated.
Desalu experienced a significant change in his career when he parted ways with his former coach, Giangiacomo Contini. Contini doubted Desalu's ability to run under 20.4 seconds in the 200m at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin. Motivated to prove him wrong, Desalu recorded a time of 20.13 seconds.
"I managed 20.13s because I changed my mentality," Desalu explained. "I needed a change and began training with Sebastian Bacchieri." This decision marked a turning point in his career, reigniting his motivation and ambition.
Desalu's family is of Nigerian origin, but he was born and raised in Italy. He acquired full Italian citizenship in 2012. Despite his Nigerian roots, Desalu identifies strongly with Italy. "I have never been to Nigeria and, right now [2019], I don't feel the need to go," he said.
"My roots are in Africa and I don't ignore them but I consider myself deeply Italian," he added. This dual heritage has shaped his identity as an athlete and individual.
Looking ahead, Desalu aims to compete at the 2024 European Championships in Rome, Italy. This goal reflects his ongoing commitment to excellence in athletics and his desire to represent Italy on the international stage.
Desalu's journey from high school athletics to competing at major championships highlights his dedication and resilience. With the support of his coach and club, he continues to strive for success in his athletic career.
