Aguilar began her athletic journey at age 14, initially focusing on middle-distance running. By age 20, she shifted her focus to heptathlon, training in Bogotá. This transition was encouraged by her coach, Mauricio Hernandez, after she injured her Achilles tendon in 2012. Hernandez noted that she achieved interesting results even without specific training.
