Evgeniy Rylov Biography

Rylov trains with Dynamo Russia and has been coached by Andrey Shishin since 2010 and Dmitry Lazarev. His dedication to swimming is evident in his personal motto: "I always work to the limit. It's not a matter of chance, but of desire. I want to prove to myself that I am the best in the world."

Education and Occupation

Rylov pursued higher education in coaching at the Moscow State Academy of Physical Education in Malakhovka. Besides his swimming career, he serves as a staff sergeant in the Moscow Oblast Police in Lobnya.

Injuries and Challenges

Rylov has faced significant injuries during his career. After competing with shoulder pain at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, he missed the Russian national short course championships and the European Short Course Championships that year. Additionally, he suffered a fractured spine as a child after falling off a slide.

Rylov's achievements are numerous. He received the 2021 European Male Swimmer of the Year award from SwimSwam and was named Swimming World magazine's European Male Swimmer of the Year for 2021. He also received the National Sports Award at the 2021 Pride of Russia awards ceremony.

In recognition of his performance at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Rylov was awarded the Order of Friendship by the president of Russia. He was named GQ Russia Magazine Sportsman of the Year in 2018 and shared this award in 2021 with other Russian gold medalists from Tokyo.

The Russian Swimming Federation named him Sportsman of the Year in 2016 and 2017, sharing the award both years with Anton Chupkov. In 2016, he received the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Russia and was awarded the Order for Merit to the Fatherland [second class] for his bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.
