Fabio Basile, an Armed Forces athlete residing in Rome, Italy, began his judo journey at the tender age of six. Inspired by Italian judoka Giuseppe Maddaloni's gold medal win in the -73kg category at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Basile was determined to follow in his footsteps.

Basile trains with Akiyama Settimo and Centro Sportivo Esercito in Italy. His coaching team includes Pierangelo Toniolo from Akiyama and Dario Romano at the national level. Their guidance has been instrumental in shaping his career.
Outside of judo, Basile enjoys going to the movies, listening to music, writing, spending time with family and friends, and playing golf. He credits his parents as the most influential figures in his career.
Basile has faced significant injuries during his career. He injured ligaments in his left arm at the 2019 European Games in Minsk but chose to compete at the World Championships two months later. In 2017, he broke his collarbone at the Grand Slam event in Abu Dhabi.
Basile lives by the motto, "You live a dream, otherwise you die for nothing." His achievements include being named Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2017 and receiving the Collare d'Oro al Merito Sportivo from CONI in 2016. He also earned the Bronze Medal of Sports Merit from CONI in 2013 and 2014.
After winning gold in the -66kg category at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Basile moved up to the -73kg category. He aims to win Olympic gold in this new weight class. Previously, he had moved from the -60kg category to -66kg in 2015.
Basile released his book 'L'impossibile non esiste' [The Impossible Does Not Exist] in June 2021. The book details his life journey and offers motivational insights. It aims to inspire readers by sharing how he overcame various challenges.
Basile has appeared on Italian reality TV shows 'Dancing with the Stars' in 2017 and 'Grande Fratello VIP' [Big Brother VIP] in 2019. His participation led him to temporarily leave the Italian Army, but he returned to training with them in January 2021.
