Yosniel Dominguez serves as his national coach. In late 2015, he began paddling with Serguey Torres Madrigal in the men's C2 1000m event. Despite an age difference of almost 12 years, their partnership has been successful. "We get along pretty well both in and out the boat," he said.

In 2019, he and Torres Madrigal were named Athletes of the Year in the non-individual event category by the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and the Cuban Union of Journalists (UPEC).
