Earlier that year, she fractured her hand while training in South Africa and underwent surgery. She missed 12 months of competition between 2018 and 2019 due to a foot injury but returned for the Olympic Qualification Event in Tokyo.

In 2013, Duffy was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her left foot and had to wear a treatment boot for six weeks. She also suffered from plantar fasciitis in 2011 and iliotibial band syndrome before the 2008 Olympic Games. From 2000 to 2004, she dealt with shin splints.

In 2018, Duffy was named an Officer of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).
