Flora Duffy Biography

Duffy's introduction to triathlon came through a local swim club. Her mother entered her into a kids' triathlon, which she loved. She joined the local kids' triathlon club, Tri Heads, along with some friends. This early exposure hooked her on the sport.

International Debut

Duffy made her international debut in 2006, representing Bermuda at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. This marked the beginning of her illustrious career on the global stage.

Influences and Inspirations

Coach Neal Henderson and her father have been the most influential figures in Duffy's career. She also looks up to Australian triathlete Emma Snowsill as her idol.

Challenges and Injuries

Duffy has faced numerous injuries throughout her career. In November 2020, she dealt with knee inflammation. Earlier that year, she fractured her hand while training in South Africa and underwent surgery. She missed 12 months of competition between 2018 and 2019 due to a foot injury but returned for the Olympic Qualification Event in Tokyo.

In 2013, Duffy was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her left foot and had to wear a treatment boot for six weeks. She also suffered from plantar fasciitis in 2011 and iliotibial band syndrome before the 2008 Olympic Games. From 2000 to 2004, she dealt with shin splints.

Awards and Honours

In 2018, Duffy was named an Officer of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). She has been named Bermuda's Female Athlete of the Year multiple times and received an Achievement Award at the Bermuda Sports Awards in 2012. Additionally, she was named Bermuda's Female Triathlete of the Year in 2010 and 2011.

Anaemia Diagnosis

In 2013, Duffy was diagnosed with anaemia and had to undergo iron IVs to bring her levels back up. This condition affected her training and overall well-being but did not deter her from pursuing her goals.
