Southam made his debut at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He competed in the 50m freestyle, finishing 10th, and won gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x200m freestyle relay. He also participated in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay heats.

World Championships Success

In 2023, Southam competed at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. He secured a gold medal in the Men's 4x100m Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:10.16. Additionally, he earned a bronze medal in the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay with a time of 7:02.13.
