Champions League begins with a bang: Fans couldn't control their excitement

As the UEFA Champions League kicked off with a bang fans couldn't hide their excitement as one of the most sought after football tournament began.

New Delhi, Sep 13: As the UEFA Champions League kicked off with a bang fans couldn't hide their excitement as one of the most sought after football tournament began.

Several big teams across various European leagues clashed with each other on the opening day of the group stage in Champions League.

Popular players like Lionel Messi, Neymar, Gianluigi Buffon, Paul Pogba and scores of other will be in action to fight for the coveted league.

On the first day of the Champions League, Barcelona defeated Juventus 3-0. Their star striker Lionel Messi's brace helped the Catalans avenge their humiliation at the hands of Juve in the last season's quarter-final.

In the day's other main matches, Bayern Munich got off to a winning start with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Group B opponents Anderlecht, Chelsea thumped competition's debutants Qarabag 6-0, Manchester United marked their return to the competition with a 3-0 rout of Basel while AS Roma clung on a for a 0-0 draw at home to Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain began life under Neymar with a crushing 5-0 win at Celtic with the dynamic Brazilian joined on the scoresheet by Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani while there were identical 1-2 loses at home for Benfica and Olympiacos against CSK Moscow and Sporting respectively.
