Washington, June 25: The USA versus Portugal match in the World Cup held last Sunday made an all-time high viewership record in the US, a report said.

The match, telecast by the ESPN, had an average of 18.2 million viewers, which surpassed the previous highest set on ABC during the Women's World Cup final in 1999 involving the USA and China, the report added. The recent match, which ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Portugal equalizing with just thirty seconds remaining for their elimination, was seen by 23 million viewers at one point, the report said.

The USA-Portugal match was the second record-setting telecast in recent times. The USA versus Ghana match, which was also a game in the World Cup, saw 11.1 millions views.

The 2010 World Cup coverage on ESPN, ESPN 2 and ABC combined to average 2.9 million viewers. In 2014, the figure stands at 4.3 million.
