Germán Sánchez Biography

Sanchez was inspired by professional Mexican wrestlers performing flips and acrobatic stunts. He initially wanted to be a wrestler but chose diving due to his father's influence. His passion for the sport grew, leading him to join the Mexican Army's diving team.

Coaching and Training

Sanchez has been coached by Shi Qing Yang and Luis Huerta at the national level. His dedication to training has been evident despite numerous injuries throughout his career.

Injuries and Challenges

Sanchez has faced several injuries, including a patellar tendon injury in 2021 that required surgery and ruled him out of the Tokyo Olympics. In 2019, he injured his Achilles tendon, missing the Pan American Games and World Championships. He also had surgeries on his left eye socket, right shoulder, and knees over the years.

Sanchez's motto is to give his best in each competition rather than aiming for prizes. This philosophy has guided him through various challenges and successes in his career.

Awards and Honours

Sanchez received the Jalisco Award in 2017 as an outstanding citizen of Jalisco State. He was also honoured with the Mexican National Sports Award in 2016. Additionally, he won the Sports Merit Award in Jalisco multiple times between 2010 and 2016.

His father, German Sanchez Sr., played football for Tecos, Chivas, and Atlante in Mexico. Sanchez lives with his wife Lizeth and their son Fernando Gleb, born in 2019.

Change of Partner

In 2021, Sanchez parted ways with his synchronised partner Ivan Garcia due to injuries limiting their competitions since the Rio Olympics. He formed a new team with Andres Villarreal, whom he described as a talented diver with great potential.
