Born in the Russian Federation, she won a silver medal for her native country at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. However, after not being selected for the Russian national team for the 2008 Beijing Games, she decided to compete for Kazakhstan. She made her international debut for Kazakhstan in 2010.

She holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in both the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. In recognition of her sporting achievements for Kazakhstan, she has been decorated with the national Order of Kurmet.
