Roberts' first competition was in November 2012 in Greenville, NC. Competing in the beginner class against male riders, she secured first place. At that time, there was no separate class for girls. This lack of support for female riders motivated her to push harder in the sport.

Brett Banasiewicz, who founded The Kitchen skatepark in South Bend, IN, has been a significant influence on Roberts. She spent around 40 hours a week at the skatepark, which she considers her second home. Her cousin's guidance and inspiration have been pivotal in her career progression.
