His father, Toshiyuki, represented Japan in pole vault at the 1993 World Championships. His mother, Naomi, competed in hurdles and triple jump at the national level.

His uncle Daisuke participated in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. His aunt Miyuki Sasakawa competed at the junior national level. His cousins Daiki and Kazuki Hashioka have played football in Japan, with Daiki representing Urawa Red Diamonds in the J1 League.
