Junghaenel dedicates around 20 hours each week to his training regime. His right eye and right hand are his dominant sides. He receives guidance from two coaches: Claus Dieter Roth at the national level and Bill Murray.

In 2013, Junghaenel was honoured as Shooter of the Year alongside Italian Jessica Rossi. This recognition came from the International Shooting Sport Federations (ISSF) Athletes Committee, the ISSF Coaches Advisory Committee, and a panel of international sports journalists.

Earlier in his career, during the 2010/11 season, he was named Great American Rifle Conference Rookie of the Year. This accolade highlighted his early promise and talent in the sport.
