In the semi-finals, Malaysia defeated defending champions South Korea with an emphatic 6-2 scoreline, while India thrashed Japan 5-0 in the second semifinal.
The Indians were unbeaten in the round-robin stage of the multi-nation competition won four matches and drew one game. The solitary draw came against their semi-final opponents Japan. In the previous meeting between India and Malaysia, the hosts emerged victorious by 5-0 in the group-stage match.

What a pulsating contest the crowd at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium witnessed. They came in good numbers to support and cheer for the home side. They had to stay calm for almost 30 minutes as Team India were trailing but they turned it around in the 45th minute of the game to score back-to-back goals and equalised for the team.

What a recovery this has been from the Indians?? They were 1-3 down for the most part in the third quarter but the Men in Blue scored twice at the stroke of fourth quarter and equalised and now Akashdeep has given Indians a lead.

GOALLL!!! Shamsher won the ball in the midfield and provided the pass to Akashdeep and Mandeep in the circle. Akashdeep didn't let the opportunity slip and scored a stupendous field goal. India take 4-3 lead in the 56th minute.
