Indian hockey stalwart Manpreet Singh has added another remarkable chapter to his illustrious career by becoming one of the most-capped players in the history of international hockey.

The veteran midfielder made his 413th international appearance during India's FIH Hockey Pro League 2025/26 match against Germany in Rotterdam on Wednesday (June 17), surpassing Dilip Tirkey's long-standing Indian record of 412 caps.

Manpreet Singh Among Hockey s Most-Capped Legends

The milestone not only makes Manpreet the most-capped player in Indian hockey history but also elevates him to fifth place on the all-time list of men's international hockey appearances.

At 33, Manpreet is also the only active player in world hockey to have crossed the 400-cap mark, highlighting a level of longevity and consistency rarely seen in modern sport.

The Only Active Member Of The 400-Caps Club

What makes Manpreet's achievement even more special is the company he now keeps. The players ahead of him on the all-time list are all retired legends who defined eras for their respective nations.

Belgium's John-John Dohmen remains the benchmark with 481 appearances, followed by Dutch icon Teun de Nooijer on 453. Australian great Eddie Ockenden finished his career with 451 caps, while Great Britain's Barry Middleton retired with 432 appearances.

The former India Hockey captain's 413th cap takes him past Pakistan legend Waseem Ahmed and further ahead of Dutch Olympic champion Jeroen Delmee, making him the fifth most-capped men's international hockey player ever.

With several major tournaments still ahead, including the World Cup and the Los Angeles Olympics cycle, Manpreet could yet climb further up the rankings.

From Jalandhar To Hockey Immortality

Since making his senior international debut in 2011 as a teenager, Manpreet has become synonymous with India's revival as a global hockey force. His relentless energy, leadership qualities and ability to control the tempo of matches have made him one of the finest midfielders of his generation.

His career has coincided with one of the most successful periods in modern Indian hockey. He captained India to a historic Olympic bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 and was part of the squad that secured another bronze at Paris 2024.

Manpreet has also played pivotal roles in India's Asian Games gold-medal triumphs in 2014 and 2022, Asia Cup victories in 2017 and 2025, and multiple Asian Champions Trophy successes.

India's Record-Breaking Hockey Icon

While the global rankings underline his greatness, the record carries special significance for Indian hockey. Dilip Tirkey's tally of 412 appearances had stood as the national benchmark for years and was widely regarded as one of the toughest records to break.

Manpreet has now surpassed that mark, becoming the face of a generation that helped restore India's place among the world's hockey elite.
