Her achievements include being the flag bearer for New Zealand at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She was also named Taieri College Sportswoman of the Year in 2012 and Para Athlete of the Year at the 2010 Athletics Canterbury Athlete of the Year Awards.
In January 2023, she underwent elbow surgery but made a strong comeback. At the 2023 World Championships in Paris, she won silver in the F46 shot put. This marked her return to shot put after a 12-year hiatus from world championships. She also finished fourth in the F46 javelin, an event she won gold in at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Reflecting on her performance, she said, "I actually went to my first world championships as a shot putter and javelin thrower. It's sort of come full circle that I'm going to my sixth doing both." She aims to compete and medal in both events at the Paris Paralympics.
She has also contributed to the sport by coaching junior athletes at Athletics Taieri club in Dunedin. Her coach Raylene Bates and her grandmother have been significant influences in her life. She never wears her competition kit before participating, a ritual she follows strictly.
She studied Sports Science at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin. Her family includes her partner Geoffrey. Her father Steve and twin brother Jonathon have played rugby union for the West Coast provincial team in New Zealand's Heartland Championship.
Looking ahead, she aims to win gold in javelin at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Inspired by New Zealand sprint paddler Lisa Carrington, she believes in living in the moment and enjoying her sport. "Go out and have fun. Live in the moment and watch the javelin fly," she says.
Her journey from a multi-sport athlete to a specialised javelin thrower and shot putter showcases her dedication and resilience. As she prepares for future competitions, her story continues to inspire many aspiring athletes.
