Hossein Reza Zadeh Biography

Rezazadeh's most memorable sporting achievement came when he won the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. This victory solidified his status as one of the top weightlifters globally. He was named the World's Best Weightlifter by the International Weightlifting Federation in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

In 2002, he was voted 'Champion of Champions' of Iran and received a 'Badge of Courage' from President Mohammad Khatami. Iran's State Commerce Bank even renamed two branches in honour of Rezazadeh and fellow gold medalist Hossein Tavakoli.

Rezazadeh has been coached by Daryoosh Roostami since 1993. His parents and coaches have been the most influential people in his career. Despite facing challenges like a broken ankle during competition, Rezazadeh has remained resilient.

Rezazadeh enjoys cooking and listening to Turkish music in his free time. He speaks Persian and Turkish fluently. He lives with his family, including one child, in Ardabil, Iran.

After his gold medal win in Sydney, Turkey's Weightlifting Federation offered Rezazadeh US$20,000 a month, a luxury villa, and a US$10 million reward if he switched nationalities and won gold for Turkey at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. However, he chose to remain loyal to Iran.
