Hugues Duboscq Biography

His first Olympic participation was at the 2000 Sydney Games, where he was part of France's relay team. A memorable moment from this event was meeting boxing legend Muhammad Ali in the Olympic Village restaurant.

Training and Regime

His training regime is rigorous. Swimming sessions last for two and a half hours twice a day. Gym sessions range between one and a half to two hours. Additionally, he cycles for muscle preparation.

Challenges and Injuries

In late 1997, he suffered a stress fracture in his back, which kept him out of the pool for six months. Despite this setback, he continued to work hard to make records and win races.

Awards and Honours

By the time of the London 2012 Olympics, he became the most decorated French swimmer in terms of Olympic medals, with three individual medals. He also received the medal of Chevalier of the Order of Merit from the International Military Sports Council.

Retirement and Future Plans

He swam his last individual 200m breaststroke race at a major meet during the European Championships in Hungary in May 2012. Although he missed out on qualification for the 2012 Olympics in this event, he was named to France's 2012 Olympic squad for the 4x100m relay as a replacement.

After the London Games, he planned to retire from competitive swimming to focus on entering Officer's School of the French Gendarmerie. This decision marked a significant shift in his career path.

He resides in Le Havre, France, and works as a police officer. He holds degrees in Mathematics and Information Technology from the University of Le Havre. He is fluent in French and enjoys hobbies such as paddle boarding, surfing, going to the cinema, relaxing, and spending time with friends.

Coaching Changes

He separated from his longtime coach Christos Paparradopoulos after failing to qualify for his preferred event at the French Championships leading up to the 2012 Olympics. This marked an end to their more than 15-year coaching relationship.
