Hugues Fabrice Zango Biography

Zango began his journey in athletics in February 2011. Initially a football player, his physical education teacher encouraged him to try athletics. "I went to the athletics track and he told me that I was more skilled in jumping events than in running events. This is how I started with triple jump," Zango recalls.

Club and Coaching

He represents Artois Athletisme in France and has been coached by Teddy Tamgho since 2018. Under Tamgho's guidance, Zango has achieved remarkable milestones in his career.

Achievements and Honours

In 2021, Zango became the first athlete to jump over 18 metres indoors in the triple jump, setting a world record of 18.07m during a competition in Aubier, France. He also made history by becoming the first competitor representing Burkina Faso to win a medal in athletics at the world championships. He claimed bronze in triple jump at the 2019 edition of the tournament in Doha, Qatar.

Zango's contributions to sports have been recognised with several awards. He was honoured as a Knight of the Order of Merit of Youth and Sports in Burkina Faso on 25 July 2016.

Educational Pursuits

Beyond his athletic career, Zango is dedicated to his studies. He holds a master's degree in electronics and electrical energy, as well as another in electrical systems engineering. He is also pursuing a doctorate degree in electrical engineering at the University of Artois in France.
