Iizuka made his international debut in 2011, competing for Japan. Since then, he has been a prominent figure in the athletics scene, earning the nickname "Japanese Bolt" for his speed and agility.
Throughout his career, Iizuka faced several injuries. In March 2018, he injured his right iliopsoas muscle while training in the USA. Earlier, he injured his right thigh during the 200m final at the 2015 Japan Championships in Niigata. This injury forced him to withdraw from the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.
Iizuka's achievements have been recognised with numerous awards. In 2012 and 2017, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Japan Association of Athletics Federations Athletic Awards. He also received Sports Awards at the Kozuki Sports Awards in 2010 and 2017.
In 2012, Iizuka was honoured with the Governor's Special Citation Award in Shizuoka Prefecture. Additionally, he received the Rookie of the Year award at the 2010 Japanese Olympic Committee Sports Awards.
