Ilya Shtokalov Biography

His brother, who trained seriously in paddling, inspired him. "My brother trained very seriously [in paddling]. He is three years older, and it was nice seeing him coming home from warm cities with medals. On the contrary, I went skiing in cold cities with a large bag of things. I was more attracted to heat," he said.

Club and Coaching

He trains at the Samara Sports School of Olympic Reserve No.6 in Russia. His coaches include Anna Panferova, Alexander Mileev, and Nikolay Sergeyev. Their guidance has been instrumental in his development as an athlete.

Achievements and Recognition

One of his most memorable achievements is winning bronze in the C1 1000m event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Initially finishing fourth, he was upgraded to bronze after Moldovan paddler Serghei Tarnovschi's medal was withdrawn due to an anti-doping rule violation.

In 2019, he received the title of Honoured Master of Sport in the Russian Federation. This recognition highlights his dedication and success in paddling.
