Janay DeLoach Soukup Biography

DeLoach chose athletics over basketball to help her family financially. She appreciated the competition despite not initially loving track and field. "I wanted to help my family financially. I was getting an education at a discounted price. That's why I originally went. I didn't love track and field. Who wants to hurt? But the competition was fun," she said.

Coaching and Training

Her personal coach, Abdel Wahab, has been instrumental in her development as an athlete. Under his guidance, DeLoach has honed her skills and achieved notable success in her sport.

Challenges and Injuries

In 2013, DeLoach suffered a broken ankle at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Initially thought to be a severe sprain, the injury was later confirmed as a broken ankle. Despite this setback, she continued to compete during the 2014 indoor season before undergoing surgery in September 2014. She returned to training by February 2015.
